Early October 2008, a young man sits in front of a vintage mixing console with his head in his hands. Coffee stained mugs sit atop mounds of Biro filled lyric sheets as the dull snap of a metronome echoes the mood of the room. All is still, the air is void of creativity, but mere moments from now, an epiphany will occur. As his eyes open wide, his head will emerge rejuvenated and an idea will be born. This was the moment when Sam Roman truly became an artist.

"I was so fed up of trying to imitate what was going on in the charts." Said Sam. "Once you've tried to release an album and failed, you take on a certain insecurity. I was always told of a famous rule, 'If it's not broken, don't try to fix it'. This rule is true for most things, but not for music. In music, we have to keep things moving, we can't just be the new version of whatever played on the radio last month. We can certainly take influence and be inspired by the past, but to break through and stand out, you need to bring something new to the table."

From this moment on, Sam embarked on a musical journey that culminated with the completing of his brand new album 'Born to be the King'.

"I think that for the first time in my short career, I feel truly comfortable with my music. I made the choice not to make an album of the current sound and therefore don't feel like I'm pretending or imitating. The music wasn't made with the intention of fitting in on the radio and I think that as a result, I'll have a much greater chance of that happening! I've made great songs that came naturally, my lyrics relate to personal experiences and the production features the instruments that I grew up listening to."

Of course, Sam Roman's music didn't just spring up over night. 'Born to be the King' was not simply the culmination of a few months work, but a lifetime of building a diverse personal taste, and from that, defining an original sound. "The first album I ever remember listening to was 'A hard days night' by the Beatles. Most of my family were obsessive Beatles fans and it wasn't long before I was really dissecting their music, learning their songs on the guitar and piano. My taste started diversifying. I was listening to people like the Stones, Wings and Elton John, then as time went by it was Nina Simone, Billy Holiday and even Rachmaninoff."

After leaving school at the tender age of 16, Sam decided that a career in music was the only option. After securing a management and production deal, Sam spent several months in Sweden, working with top songwriters and producers. The songs that Sam returned with earned him a spot on MTV basslounge which was broadcasted on MTV several times. This was the point of no return. From this day onwards, Sam knew that there was only one path to be taken.

In early 2010 Sam received an investment deal and his record company; Soulsonic Record's Limited was launched! 2010 marks a new era in Sam Roman's career. The start of the true beginning, and Sam's  opportunity to show the world what has been so many years in the making.

Years of writing followed, constant gigging in london and around the UK and recording in the studio on the weekends. After trying to self promote his first album, Sam decided to concentrate on honing his skills as a producer and practicing his writing by working for other artists. It wasn't long before the bug returned and in no time at all, Sam was back in the studio, preparing new tracks and getting ready to start a new album.

"I make easy listening music with meaningful lyrics and old school melodies. It sounds like all the great music that I listened to growing up and that's what we intended. I used to call myself a Singer/Storyteller. I hope that title still fits.
